ESPO Building, Leicester

This building was a steel framed building approximately 120 metres by 34 metres. We were tasked to carry out an in depth steel survey of the structure including floor plans, internal elevations, roof, gable and side bracing section sizes and connection details including whether there were single or double bolted and the bolt sizes; all section sizes and joint details for the building frame including UB (universal beams), UC (universal columns), RSC; RSJ profiles including flange and web thickness, apex and eaves haunch details with plate thickness and widths; purlin and cleat details.

Many sections of the building needed to be opened up to expose the framework prior to survey. Working in close consultation with the client each area was opened up and surveyed by reflectorless methods then accessed by scissor lift to measure critical dimensions using disto, tape and callipers (for bolt sizes). Cross referenced photographs were taken at all stages of the survey.

Although the survey specification was complex, and access difficult, the fieldwork was completed on schedule and all the information delivered to the client within the allocated period and to the agreed budget.
