We were contacted to undertake a measured building survey of a ward, originally constructed in the 1930s, at the above hospital. The ward was in daily use treating patients with mental health problems so we had to devise a programme that ensured a safe working environment and minimal disruption to the daily routine of the occupants.
In consultation with the Head Nurse we developed a programme for surveying each room when the residents were at therapy or meals. Communal areas were undertaken when the patients were at rest. This involved working unorthodox hours but ensured the work was completed on time and without effecting the day to day running of the ward or care of the occupants.
